About this boat
Do you dream of a life on the water and a slower pace of life? Are you looking for a liveaboard where you dont have to worry about spendind thousands on a dodgy hull? Do you want to move onboard and set off into the sunset with peace of mind that you've bought a good solid boat that will last for years to come? If you answered yes to these 3 questions, then Mr Binks is the boat for you! Narrowboat Mr Binks is a 1982 Colecraft 40ft trad stern with a Lister air cooled engine (in engine room) that sounds wonderful and is ready for off grid continual cruising or marina living. Layout - Bow -Saloon - Gally - Shower room - Bedroom - Engine room (handy for storage) - Trad Stern *1x new starter battery & 3x leisure batteries *3000w inverter *1 solar panel *large integral water tank that lasts 1 person around 2 weeks with showers every day. *up and out side hatch *new cratch cover *shot blasted and 2pakd Sept 2024 *new bss feb 2026 I have owned Binks for 18 months and its been a labour of love. I have carried out extensive internal works to him and his hull has also been well looked after (see details below), which means you can move straight in and enjoy life on the water stress free knowing you've bought a good solid boat. Prior to me owning Binks he was blacked every 2 years (2020, 2022) and then shot blasted and 2 packed september 2024 but didn't go back into the water until April 2025 so there's many years left on the 2pak. He also had a new baseplate and sides re-welded in September 2024 (just before the 2pak) and I had new annodes, a new prop shaft and cutlass bearing fitted, engine service and unused low level skin fittings welded closed as recommended by surveyor in April 2025. Binks has been moored in a marina for the last year (with a galvanic isolator) whilst internal works have been carried out. I have stripped out everything below the gunwales (up to the bedroom) and - *Scraped out all rust in bilges and treated with Furtan and painted with red oxide *replaced all wood on top of bearers for new floor to be laid *fitted new sub floor with 18ml marine ply and painted with extra mold resistance treatment *laid foil back foam underlay and laminate flooring. *replaced all ply wall under gunwhales with 9ml ply (there is thick kingspan insulation behind this) *replaced kitchen cupboards and worktops *Fitted new skin fitting for kitchen sink *had a new 2 burner gas hob fitted *added a 240v fridge with freezer box *tiled splashbacks *built new fire surround to BSS standards with cilica board and air gap. *new tiling for the surround and hearth *fitted refurbished hobbit multi fuel stove with a custom made flue pipe *fitted new curtains (blackout in bedroom and gally) *built a sliding bed extender to bring bed out to king size (5ft 6 x 6ft 2) or can be kept at 4ft for better access to engine room. *repainted interior *had new BSS on 21st Feb (expires 21/02/2030) *new cratch cover and side hatch cover from 3elements in Dec 2025 costing £1,700 *hot water boiler is being replaced this month. As you can see, lots of work has been done and I'm more than happy if the buyer wants to get a pre purchase survey. Any questions, I am more than happy to answer. I also have lots of photos of all the works being carried out on my insta page narrowboat_mrbinks
