About this boat

Zanzibar is a 52ft traditional narrowboat built in 1991 by South West Durham, with owner modifications, and has been in the same ownership since 1994. The traditional layout comprises an aft bedroom with cross bed double berth, galley, shower room and forward saloon. A distinctive feature is the extended steel cabin roof, which reaches the hardwood glazed cratch board to create a large sheltered well deck, providing an additional all-weather space, with hinged table. The saloon benefits from extra-large side doors, a solid fuel stove, sofa bed and two tub chairs. The compact galley is equipped with gas cooking and an under-counter 12V fridge, while the shower room includes a pump-out toilet and washbasin. Storage is particularly generous for a boat of this length, with three wardrobes together with ample cupboards and shelving throughout. Central heating is provided by an Eberspacher diesel-fired boiler feeding radiators, with hot water supplied by the engine, boiler or immersion heater. Electrical systems include a Sterling 1.8kW inverter, Sterling 30A battery charger and a 100W solar panel to help maintain the batteries.
